ezPOS v11 Windows 7 z-out issue
« on: August 16, 2015, 04:14:55 PM »
We have had a Windows 7 server for some time and two XP stations but they both crapped out this past weekend. We have replaced them with two new POS termainls with windows 7 on them and everything is laggy (XP machines were fast) and Z-out locks up either of the network connected terminals though it works just fine on the main server unit in the back office. I researched this issue on your forum and found another user with the same issue to a T except he was using version 13.x. Any ideas or solutions to this dilemma?

It could be the firewall or security software is scanning every file access from the two registers.  Make sure that the POS.exe program on all 3 computers has full access privileges to the ezp folder.

All firewalls are turned off and there is no AV installed for this test. Everything was working great before the Windows 7 upgrades.

If you search your forum for "Z-out on new Win7 crashes system" you will find the exact issue that we have described but they were using 13.8? What else can we try? Any other suggestions?

The only known cases where ezPower runs slow (laggy) is caused by firewall/security software scanning everything.  This makes some functions, like a z-out seem to freeze because it's taking to long.  Some reports would also take a long time.  Version 11, in the XP days, stored the ezp folder inside the Program Files directory.  After XP, Windows doesn't allow that and redirects any file commands to a 'compatibility' directory.  I would guess the Windows redirection has a overhead cost that slows file access down.  Newer versions store all the data in a different directory.  My suggestion would be to purchase the "Update to Current Version" for $79.  Version 11 was built before Vista and Windows 7.  It's to outdated.

***SOLUTION***

Just want to follow up with you and let you know that upgrading to the new V14 fixed this issue that this thread pertains too. Everything is good now, thank you.
